Initially, I has no idea what people were talking about. It wasn't a term I was familiar with in the early part of my image consulting career though of course I had to promote my business to get clients.
Despite knowing that it was important, I shyed away from being the face of my brand as I had all sorts of hangups - I didn't look like a personal stylist, I didn't like my accent, I wasn't skinny enough.
It wasn't until I realised that as a small business I had no choice but to be the face of my brand that I started to focus more on how I was representing myself and my services. I began to show my face and personality and my marketing started to work.
